About Secrets of Magic Forum

History

Secrets of Magic Forum was orignally created in 2005 in September, you can see how far we came by clicking here Old Secrets of Magic Forum

We are currently in the third version of our site, hence the name "SOMFV3". The first version being the one you clicked on above, and the second being seen here SOMF V2. As you can tell, we have come a long way from the original SOMF. At the start it was more about the secrets, and not so much on everything else that makes magic an art. The views of SOMF have changed greatly since then in a positive direction.

Our Views

Now I am sure there are a LOT of people who do not agree with our views, and think that it is just flat out exposure. This is ok because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. What we believe though, is that the secret does not matter as much. There is more to magic than just smoke and mirrors. We are not saying they mean nothing, but magicians must accept that secrets aren't everything.

Our views on how magic on the internet should be presented is simple, with free speech. In the older days, magicians couldn't go online and search/purchase magic tricks, they had to go down to their local shop, or get help from another magician. Now we don't think this is a bad thing at all. It is great to hang out at your local shop, or chat and learn from other magicians. What we DO know is that not everyone can do that. With the internet, you can learn from other magicians or buy your magic ONLINE. It is a great way to share information if you do not have other magicians around you to learn from. With the internet, magicians can now do research on effects they are looking to buy before buying them. That is one of the main reasons we are here, to help other magicians. We want to be able to help out the magician that has no money to spend, doesn't have a magic shop close to them, and doesn't have anyone to learn from. Of course, we will get people who are just looking for the secret, but just think to yourself for a moment. If these people decided to go on google and search for how a trick was done, don't you think they have a little bit of an interest in magic? I sure do. If they put in the effort to sign up on a forum, and read through walls of text, just to figure out how something is done, they mosy likely have a genuine interest in the art! So before judging us and our views, give us a chance. Sign up and talk to the community, and then tell us what you think.
