Hi people!

As you have already noticed our member Match came across a great idea and we all agreed that it could be a cool way to help promote SOMF.

Basically, the idea was for each participant to film himself apparently grabbing a card from the side of the screen, doing a short magic routine with it and then forward it to another participant thus making a collaboration routine with participants all across the globe.

It really sounds like a fun and easy thing to do and this thread was founded to collect members willing to contribute and suggest ideas to make this come alive!

The first preconception about this project is that only the more active and experienced may participate, THIS IS FALSE.

As this will be a promotion of SOMF as a forum where people all across the globe come to learn and share secrets, the most desirable result is that members with any skill level help to contribute - the goal is to show variety and teamwork.
Maybe this is a chance for some of the newer and less active members to present themselves as parts of this community and as well for some older members to help promoting SOMF in the best way so far.

It doesn't matter who you are and how good you are I WANT YOU IN THE VIDEO! and I can guarantee everyone will get their share of it.

The video-quality requirement will be necessary but I believe it can be accomplished by everybody as most of you probably already have one of these (or better)

Now, everybody interested is welcome to sign under this and of course suggest their preferable routine and ideas for the video, I would really like to see how do you guys imagine this.
(Also, there's no rush in making the videos, its a relatively long-term project through some few months or so)

With Mike's permission, I will be editing the final video.

IPBFree gone forever!!!

The ipbfree forum services seem to be ceased suddenly a few days back. Thousands of forums hosted there
are now lost.

It seems there is no way to retrieve anything. everything lost forever.

White borders around emoticons

I've noticed that quite a few of the emoticons on this forum have white borders around them, which I would assume makes them look good on a white background, but makes them not look so good on the dark backgrounds here. Poking around, I found this: http://gfx.invisionize.com/db/index.php/f/2728
It seems to be a pack of emoticons that look the same as the ones here, only they are designed for a black background, in case anyone in charge is interested.

A great discussion has been going on in the general magic section about the Chavez School of magic. With all the topics and experience on this site I was just wondering if we couldn't start our own magic course? It could be divided up into the sections we already have and maybe be placed into one section that could be kept closed and only added to by moderators? Just thinking out loud......

I just wondered where is the secrets section and what is the criterion for accessing it? I saw it mentioned in a thread, on Gecko, I think. It is not a complaint but I wonderd why, on a board for teaching magic, one part would be off limits to some. Are the REAL secrets in there?

I though I had sent this in a PM to Mike yesterday but it does not seem to be in my sent folder? If I did sorry for duplicating

Posting Goals - All Members Read

Now over the past few months, we have seen SOMF growing even more than it has in the past, and it is great! It seems we are getting a bit more active as well, but not as much as I'd like!

I think we should have some goals, or at least try to fill up some of the more unpopular sections of the forum. So I ask all of the members of SOMF, to start making more topics/discussions in some of the following areas of the board!

The Business Of Shows
Children's Magic
Busking & Street Magic
Related Magical Arts
Beginner's Magic Forum
Imagine

I've only been on this site for a short time but I can tell that it is time for the site to move onto more than just a forum / blog.

I'm all up for a new site that has more features. This should include, but not be limited to...

video / image uploads
member blogs
groups
polls
chat
a friends system
private messaging
user profiles
events

And of course, this forum should be integrated into it.

If many other people think this is a good idea I'll get started on a working demo on my own domain, and I'll code it for free. It might seem like I'm trying to take over SoMF, but I will leave the current administrators/moderators as administrators/moderators on the community site, and make myself a normal user so that they still have full control over the site.

Please leave a reply / poll answer and tell me if you think this is a good idea.

Illustrated magic

I know I read some thread about it, saying that it was more organized the way it is now, without the section, but I disagree. I think it was much clearer when it was there, and you kind of got "rewarded" for making up some images or videos to your tutorials, rather than text only.

So what do you people think? Was it a good section of the forum, and do you want to have one? Please vote!

For those of you who don't know, we used to have a section in the forum called "Illustrated Magic" where all video tutorials went, and all tutorials that were illustrated in some way. When you posted a card trick explaination on video in the card magic forum a mod could move it to Illustrated Magic if they liked it, and that way it got a bit highlighted and you could see all video and image tutorials in one place.

I am in the process of redesigning the home page, as seen here http://somfv3.com, the thing is, I'm not very good coming up with designs, so if there is anyone that has an idea of what the homepage could look like, send me a PM.
