Doug Henning - $1,000,000 Illusion

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lIxWPNVqwWo

Before David Copperfield there was Doug Henning. Copperfield received more credit then he deserved for reviving the publics interest in magic, although Copperfield had a part, a small part, he only rode on Henning's coattail. In actuality, it was Henning who revived the interest in magic. I believe Copperfield received most of the credit due to his television persona being more interesting and, dare I say, sexier than Henning's. However, if you ever watched Henning and Copperfield live, of the two, Henning had the better show and related to his audience on a more personal level. To bad this didn't come across on television.

Ambitious Card Routine

I have recently learned a Ambitious Card Routine that is quickly becoming my favorite routine. I've had stunning reactions with it. Last night I put on a small show for a few friends and the girl that I used for the Ambitious Card actually jumped from the shock at the end when the card turned up under her hand. This is a very visual piece of magic that when presented properly is absolutely stunning. Anyone else had these kind of results? This has brought results from laymen that have totally passed my expectations!

Of these the only one used the camera to aid in the illusion, Criss Angel. Well, does anyone have any thoughts how to perform the Vanishing Feet Illusion?

Two Card Monte

(I am referring to the classic trick, not David Blaine's by the way)

I am curious if anyone has devised a good technique for flipping a double faced card and a double back card together and making it look like you are showing two perfectly ordinary cards at the same time. The basic technique always taught as part of the simple "Two Card Monte" trick is in my opinion fatally flawed. The reason is, of course, because if the cards were legit, the face-up card would always be on top or always on the bottom, regardless of the side shown, not change places. To me this makes it glaringly obvious that one card has two faces and the other has two backs. Even with the addition swapping the card positions as you flip them, you still can't fix the way the cards overlap. Perhaps I'm overestimating the amount of visual discontinuity that would be perceived (or not perceived) by the random spectator, but I've always stayed away from this trick because of this fact. Has anyone come up with a better presentation?

Mental photography Deck / Nudist Deck routine

What's your favorite routine ?

This is mine

Setup : prepare the deck with a visible face and a visible back (so it looks like a normal deck)

Presentation :

- Pick out the deck from it case
- with my right hand, riffle the card and let fall the card in my left hand to show faces and back
- Ask to a spectator to say stop and riffle again
- When the spectator say stop, the current visible face is the selected card
- Then I flip over the pack fallen in my left hand (to see the face) and put the pack in my right hand on the pack in my left hand
- At this point the selected card is on the top with its face visible
- Then mean while I taking the selected card out of the deck with my right hand, I flip over the pack in my left hand to make the back visible
- The selected card is put on the table and I put the rest of the deck in its case and given to the spectator (back side in the same way than the back side print on the case)
- I take back the the selected card, and I make it reversed to show the blank side with a move that I don't know the name !!! I will try to explain at the end of this post
- Then I insert the blank card (=reversed selected card) in the card case => the face of the rough face of the selected card is now on the top rough back in the deck
- then I snap in my finger, open the deck and finally show it completly blank.

Special move that i don't know the name:

- show my right hand palm up
- put the card on my finger with its face visible
- close slowly my hand while closing my hand and turning my palm down
- with the left hand I take the card corner on the right of my right hand
- the card face is still face up

I repeat this 3 times and the 4th time I do the same but I put the card on my palm (not on my finger) => the card is reversed !

XD

Laying on of Hands

For those who may not get an e-mail from Sankey about the free tricks go to http://www.sankeymagic.com/ and look for Laying on of Hands.

I performed this last night. Since part of it is a beginner's trick. I think a couple of teenagers knew that by the way they looked at each other and nodded.

But I enjoyed their look of amazement when at the last I said to the volunteer that peeked at a card, "I don't need to touch your brain or even your head. All I have to do is move my hand close to your head." Then I revealed the color, suit and number of the card.

First I had the volunteer shuffle the deck. When I had the volunteer peek at the card I looked away so there was no way I could see any of the cards. I also had them write the name of the card down and put the pad of paper face down while I looked away. People tend to forget the chosen card. After they peeked at the card (and subsequently I peeked at it) I had the volunteer shuffle the cards again.

Then I put the cards behind my back to feel and name cards.

Also since I tend to forget, I eliminated putting a card down on the table. That made too much to remember. I just did the behind the back feeling and naming the cards. Then picked the chosen card from the volunteer's brain.

This got great reactions.

Larry

I always wondered in detail how Copperfield did his TV classic TNR, Torn Asunder. I ran into this explanation today. I can't say 100% this is the method but it does explain a lot of how it could be done.

Copperfield Video:

Explanation:
